Diane - thanks for the response. Unfortunately for me, the / switch didn't
work nor did deleting the xml file. Either way, I get same error message
when I start the problem profile. I've tried to restart, etc and still get
the same error. I then tried this:

1. Created new profile and opened it - no problem loading it.
2. Imported the old pst into the new profile
3. Restarted Outlook with new profile
4. Got the same error message
5. Tried to run /resetnavpane again - ugh - same error!

Is the .pst itself corrupt and if so, is there anything I can do?

All of this after loading SP2 onto Vista.

Thanks for any ideas!

So the problem goes away until you import the pst? I doubt the pst is
corrupt - it would not have imported. One thought is the last message is
causing issues in the preview pane. Will outlook work if you close then
restart outlook with the /safe:1 switch?

Outlook will work if I use that switch. I can also get it to work
(sometimes) if I delete the .xml file and the extend.dat file and open
outlook using the /resetnavpane switch. However, that only works once. If I
close outlook then try to re-open with that switch it won't work. However,
if I delete the files again, and use that switch, it will open.

I should also note that there are no email messages in that account. I only
use it for contacts and calendar items.
