Cannot open file form File Open menu

If i select the File menu and then open nothing happens,
if I use the Task pane and click on more my file list
appears. I can also launch excel files from explores.
Why does the file/open menu not work.

There was a virus that affected the File|Save, File|SaveAs and File|Open.

maybe you got hit.

(I'm not sure if this affected the taskpane, though.)
