Cannot open downloaded files directly

When I download f.ex. a .zip file and choose open in internet explorer
(IE6 on Win XP) to avoid storing on the harddisk, internet explorer
gives me these messages after download: "Cannot open C:\Documents and
Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5\<different letters every time>\filename.zip"

When I delete temporary internet files it works for a couple of
downloads. But then the message starts showing up again until I delete
the temporary internet files again. Any ideas?

Hi,

You might be hitting the size limit of the cache. Make the maximum size of
the Temporary Internet Files folder greater from Tools, Internet Options.

Hi, thanks for the answer. Shouldn't the cache be automatically
erased/overwritten when it is full? How big should it be? It's 3GB
now.

That's way too big. Reduce it to 50 MB.

I set it to 50 MB (and 100MB), but I still get the same error message
if I don't delete the files manually from time to time.

It will be selectively erased/overwritten but the order may not suit
you. It may erase what you have just downloaded when it is full. It is
not always on a FIFO basis.
I suggest you download .zip files to disk and keep your cache at 50Mb
as Frank suggests.
