Cannot open any of my photo folders

Sudden, strange, persistent Windows Explorer error message. If I simply use
Explore or even if I use photo editing software, whenever I attempt to open
any of my thousands of photos on the hard drive I get a "Windows Explorer has
encountered an error" message, I go ahead and do the "notify microsoft of
this problem" option. This is such a surprise. I can explore other parts of
my PC, but whenever I hit the folder "My Pictures" and it begins to draw the
folders within that folder, about 20 seconds in to the process, I receive the
error message.
The only recent software install was an Upgraded Roxio Creator program and
an updated NVidia driver package.

I have Elements, also a smaller package PhotoDeluxe for lighter duty work.

Thanks. Before I received your feedback, I changed the properties of the "my
pictures" folder and checked "make private"; for reasons I do not understand,
that has worked! So the issue is closed, I guess. Thank you.
