Cannot move any desktop icons

C

Charlie Smith

Hi all,
I have a major weird problem with my Windows XP's desktop
icons: I can't move any of them at all. I know that the
typical solution is to do a right-click on the desktop
and, then de-select "Auto Arrange". However, I've done
that and -- even with "Auto Arrange" turned off -- the
icons CAN'T be moved or manually arranged in any way
shape or form.

So, if turning off "Auto Arrange" doesn't do the trick
(and it hasn't), what's the solution to this bizarre and
very stubborn problem?

Curiously,

Charlie S.

I have the same exact issue. And all of a sudden - started last
night. I didn't make any changes. Using Win XP Pro, with all the
latest updates. Ran virus scans, etc. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

If you can move them but they snap back, then try right clicking on
your desktop picture, then move the mouse up to "arrange icons by:".
Now choose "align to grid". "Show desktop icons" should also be
enabled already. I hope that is your problem.. easy fix.

Whoops sorry I see now the original post already mentioned this..
