Ok, so the initial problem is, new computer, reinstalled office, have outlook
2003 and was able to transfer contact list. However address book did not come
over. Whenever I select address book or hit the "To" button on a compose mail
page, i get a message saying "address book could not be displayed. the
contacts folder associated with this adddres list could not be opened.... etc.

So I went to the forum and found that i need to "mark contact folder with
use for your addrss book. Apparently it's already installed. HOwever, part
of the "mark contact folder" instructions is to go to the file menu, select
"folder" then select "Properties for your 'folder name.'"

However, there is no properties for 'your folder name.' The only thing close
is "properties for inbox" and selecting that gets me nowhere. So now I am
stumped. any suggestions? Am I even on the right path to fixing my initial
problem with my being unable to use an address book?

Thanks for taking the time to help Oliver. I went to the page you suggested
and performed all the tasks. It seemed like it was going to work but when I
went to use the address book I got the same error message. However, when I
closed the error message, a box popped up with a drop down menu to choose
address book, which I did, making the address book accessible. However when I
try to click on the "to" button on a mail field, or select "address book"
from the menu, I got the error message. What's going on here? Anyway to make
it work correctly? I didn't use to have this problem on my old machine
