Cannot Logon to XP Pro

I just capitulated to the Geek from Redmond and bought XP Pro. AFter 2 years
of using my 98 system EVERY day with no problems, my "new, state-of-the-art,
more stable, incredibly more efficient, safer, power rich" system is now
non-functional. After spending 2 days trying to complete the "automatic"
upgrade, I finally got the POS to work. NOW, I can shut XP down but when I
boot up again, it goes to the Password Entry and .......

NOTHIN'

Can't type anything into the box, my mouse is frozen, and only option is to
power down. Have let it sit for 20mins, so I assume even the Microshit team
could not possibly create an OS this slow (though I admit it may be an
inaccurate assumption).

After I power down, I start up in safe mode (God I love this new safer more
efficient more stable OS) then shut down. Next time thru it works ok.

Well Bill, even a "horse's ass who calls himself a programmer" like you
could not conjure up a more ineffective boot up process. I really love paying
$200 bucks to go backwards!!

So, tell me. I can't wait to hear my fate here. Tell me to "reload Windows,
or upgrade my system, or some other MS BS (hey, that should be their stock
ticker instead of MSFT). Tell me how my system is AFU, the one that worked
for 2 years FLAWLESSLY!!!

English support groups allmost allways recommend to install XP as an upgrade
but that way you keep the previous system's drivers which don't do well with
XP. This is doubly true if you were previously running a Windows 9x-based
OS... Spanish support groups allways recommend to install XP on a formated
drive to avoid such problems as you're having now.

It does mean you have to reinstall all your programs and you may have to
download some drivers, but in your case there's no avoiding it.. you could
try to do some repairs but it may take a long time to finally make it run as
is should. or have your XP up and running how it was meant to... .

You might not believe it at this stage, but XP is significantly more stable
than Win98. A clean install rather than an upgrade always works better I
find-and in addition you must still be using FAT32 formatting, therebye
missing out on the extra security and stability that comes with NTFS. You
sound too angry to try this suggestion, but I'll offer it anyhow.

Boot your machine from the XP CD
Follow the install wizard
When you get to the point where it asks if you want to do an update install
or a completely new install-choose the New option. It will recognise you
will over write whats on the hard drive, but will ask you if you want to use
C:\windows as your install path. At that point type in something like
C:\winXP so you don't overwrite your previous install.
Follow the install as before

Now when XP tells you the installation is complete, restart the system. You
will see that XP recognises that two version are present and allows you to
select which one to load. Unfortunately both versions have the same name,
but generally the most recent install is listed first. So select the first
install in the list and press enter. With any luck windows will now run
correctly. Your data from the upgraded installation can then be transfered
to the new install. Finally just delete the failed update.

Well, thanks for the response Chelsea. I don't want you to think I do not
appreciate the responses, cause I do. Yeah, I guess I do sound angry, but not
at the great people who attempt to wade through the sea of Microshit BS to
help the MYRIAD users who have been coerced into buying Gates' latest
boondogle (some 2000 a day by Google stats).

I guess my problem with all this is the fact that I, in good faith, went
into a local store and pluncked down 200 bucks to do the RIGHT thing. I
didn't, as thousands have done, attempt to steal a bootleg copy and hack the
WPA algorithm or use an illegal Enterprise install. I bought a software
package called, ready?....

Now even with the latest Clinton-ese applied, to ME, upgrade means:

"A method of replacing the EXISTING OS with a superior version without
disrupting the usability of the system".

I mean, the box didn't say "Scrap the old and start with a new system
version"!
It really pisses me off when the MS apologists allow these cretens to get a
pass on this crap. Sure, I can and will get it working.....eventually.

But why the hell should we accept this shit? Why should I have to do all
this crap, and these cretens do not even have to ALLOW us to call them to fix
their inferior, buggy, spaghetti-coded mess without a credit card. I'll tell
you why, cause they were spending MILLIONS on support, mostly to fix their
own crap, and just realized the obvious:

It's MUCH EASIER to IGNORE the problems than to actually code better
programs.

How about this...the reason MOST people won't PAY for this crap is cause
they are tired of laying out GOOD money for shit software. I bet most people
would GLADLY pay IF the crap worked and did what it was supposed to (and not
after spending 10 hours and 20 messsages to helpful people who attemp to do
Microshafts job for them).

I'll get it to work, using the age old Microshaft copout:

Start from scratch, ignore the function of the software, buy a new system,
reinstall clean and then spend the next 15 days recovering from your
"out-of-body..er box" experience. Bastards is what they are. I wanna see
Gates in an Orange jump suit, sharing a cell with that dickless wonder Balmer
facing the probability that the only sex they will share for the rest of
their lives is with each other in the shower.
