Cannot log in

I have Windows XP Professional. I have a home network and
use a log in.
When the log in screen comes on, I put my username in the
correct blank and the password in the correct blank. I
have retried it several times. I cannot get by the
screen. I keep getting the error message that the network
does not recognize my username/password. Is there any way
to bypass the the username screen to check settings.
