Cannot install SP1

I am trying to install SP1 on a computer with XP Pro. It
was upgraded from Windows98 to XP Home to XP Pro. The
issue is SP1 fails saying the registration code is
invalid. When you look in control panel under system it
shows the old registration key from Windows 98. The system
has been running XP for several months and was registered
with Microsoft. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Certain XP Volume license (some people call the Corporate License)
activation keys were compromised and were being used by "Software Pirates".
MS pulled the plug on those activation keys in SP1, by not allowing SP1 to
install on a machine that was activated using one of the "Pirated Activation
Keys". Note: I've heard even more "Activation Keys" have been locked out
for the upcoming SP2.
