Cannot install NAV

The system freezes at certain point in the process of installing Norton
Anti-Virus. I tried several times but the same symptom. Another problem
which may relates to the above is that the system some time freezes even
when any application software is being run. What would be a likely
cause of this problem? How to diagnose the problem? I am wondering if
it is bad RAM causing it.
I have just installed WXP Pro and NAV is the very first application
software I attempted to install.
Please help.

This is usually caused by some registry key that is messing everything up,
however, this is usually a Symantec issue. They have a knowledgebase on
symantec.com that may resolve this.

Actually, I very much doubt this is caused by "some registry key". Since
this is a new installation of Windows, you may have failing hardware.
Definitely you should run a RAM test (I like Memtest86 from
www.memtest86.com). Allow the RAM test to run for an extended period of
time, such as overnight. If the RAM is OK, then run a hard drive
diagnostic.

Mike and Malke:

Thank you for your responses.
The culprit has been determined to be RAM module. I replaced the RAM modules
with new ones and the problem was resolved. The new RAM modules which were
on order for upgrading purpose just happend to arrive yesterday.
Than you again.
