I cleaned up my computer and registry as best I could and even found
two viruses I did not know I had, but still cannot install the printer.
When I installed the cd after I plugged the USB in ( i have tried it
both ways), setup starts to install then gives me a message " Cannot
install this software. An error occured during the installation of
this device. The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a
thread exit or application request. I went in next to the add a
printer wizard and added a HP deskjet 1200C printer driver. I was able
to print to the buisness inkjet 1200 but could not get color and some
of the text was screwed up in a word perfect document. I do know the
printer works fine on another system.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would start by removing the DeskJet 1200C printer (it was an entirely
different model of printer, introduced a dozen years ago).... Next
unplug the USB cable for the 1200, download the scrubber from
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...iesId=411179&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=228
(in the "Utility" section. Run this program, then download and install
either the "Add printer" driver or the full driver available at the same
link. Do not reconnect the USB cable until instructed in the
installation.

OK, here is what I just did: download the driver from
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=bi-24040-2,
save it in some directory such as c:\temp.

Run the file bi1203en.exe which will create a directory
C:\TEMP\hpbi1200\Drivers\Win2k_XP\English. Go to start, printers and
faxes, add printer next, local printer, next, next, have disk and point
at C:\TEMP\hpbi1200\Drivers\Win2k_XP\English. Select hpf1200k.inf then
OK. This should install the printer.

If the above does not work please let me know any error messages or what
step does not work.
