Cannot get full memory

I have an intel inside IBM pentium 3 laptop with windows
xp professional on it and a 20 gigabyte harddrive

I recently formatted my computer and ance it was done it
only showed 2 gigs of memory. i need to know how to gewt
my computer to show the other 18 gigabytes.
Any provided info would be greatly appreciated

Jimmy, how did you format your computer? If you used a bootdisk with
fdisk and format on it. Use fdisk
to see your partitions. You can also delete and create new partitions
and then format them. Were you
using FAT32 or NTFS?

I used DOS 6.2 to format my comp

You formatted the drive as fat16, which has a 2 gig limit. You need to
format as fat32 or NTFS to see the whole drive. You can not do this with the
DOS 6.22 floppy! Boot from the Windows XP CD and format the drive as part of
the install procedure. Choose fat32 OR NTFS.

You used an old bootdisk or didn't go with the default "large disk
support" in fdisk.
