Cannot format mini sd card.

I appreciate that this is probably not an XP specific problem, but,

I have a 1GB minisd card, and a SD to USB adapter. When plugged into
an available USB port on my XP laptop XP recognises it as a USB disk
and shows up in 'My Computer'.

However, accessing it results in a message like 'disk is not
formatted'. It lets me try to format it, but the format always fails.

The write protect switch is not the problem. Checked that.

Any ideas where the problems lies?

Try cleaning the card contacts.
