I get the following error when I try and connect to the
Internet.
The page cannot be displayed – Cannot find server or DNS
Error Internet Explorer.
Clicking on File – Properties – General Tab – displays the
address URL as
res://C:\WINDOWS\System32
\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm#http://www.yahoo.co.uk/
IPCONFIG /all displays the following info – note the blank
Connection-specific DNS Suffix.

To-date I have re-installed my O/S to no avail.
I have removed and installed Internet Explorer.
I have also run a system file check.
Everything was working fine then all of a sudden I was
unable to display pages in my Browser.
Just prior to this I attempted to download a screen saver
I had bought off CD which I have since removed.
It installed other stuff that I did not want on my machine
so this was removed through un-install of the program but
then my browser stopped working. Now having reloaded
Internet Explorer from scratch I would have thought that
this would have fixed the problem.
I have three copies of Wsock32.dll on my machine – at the
following locations.
WSOCK32.DLL C:\I386
Wsock32.dll C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
Wsock32.dll C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DLCCA – (this
entry is in blue)
I am using Windows XP [ Version 5.1.2600 ] Home SP1.
and IExplorer 6.0.2800.1106.
My configuration is set to the following, which has worked
perfectly in the past for a DIAL-Up connection using
TCP/IP.
Auto Detect – No Proxy – Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) – QoS
Packet Scheduler – Obtain IP address automatically –
Obtain DNS server address automatically.
In Summary – I get a physical connection but no IP to Host
addressing as shown above.
Has anyone got any ideas as my ISP are hopeless - and I
have found nothing in Microsofts knowledge base that
remedies my problem.
How does DNS work when you connect a Home PC through a
Dial-Up connection to an ISP.
Everything was working fine and then suddenly a constant
page fault with the above symptons.
Can anyone suggest what has been changed.
