Hello. If someone could help, it would be greatly appreciated. I have
searched through these forums and have found similar cases, but not quite the
same.

Here is the problem. Whenever I go to My Computer and right click on a drive
(floppy,cd,dvd) to explore the contents of the disc, I get a message that
Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. I then get a
message that Dr. Watson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and
needs to close. It does not matter what I place in the drives, they can not
be explored. I am running XP Pro w/ SP2. Thank you.

I would be interested in hearing from you in this thread, if the problem
returns.

It's very hard for the people who help in this forum to know if things are a
conflict, or a bug. The error you report is coming up frequently, after SP2.
You obviously did your homework before asking this, and I'm sure you checked
for virus, adware, etc, so hearing your result, (and maybe a comment on
anything you think you have extra, that might have done it) would help a
lot.

Some of my suggestions would be...type of antivirus?, type of firewall?
Special hardware?

Mark,

Okay, sorry about that. I have not actually tried as you suggested yet. I
am going to do so tonight. I will let you know the results once I do so. As
far as anything else, let's see.
I have Mcafee Antivirus and Personnal Firewall installed on both my pc's
with SP2. I have to disable MPF to gain internet access since I installed
SP2. I run virus scans daily and always come up clean. I also run Ad-Aware,
Spybot and C-Cleaner daily also. I also defragment my hard drive daily. A
little paranoid? Hey, just because your paranoid doesn't mean that they are
not out to get you.
Any ways, I also have Nero software installed (INCD) and 321 Studio
software installed (Pattin Couffin). I removed both programs to make sure
there were no conflicts, and I still have the same problem. I have no special
hardware, I don't think. Here is a rundown:

-Intel P4 3.2Ghz 800 fsb 512kb
-Antec True 450 Watt PSU
-MSI 875p Neo FIS2R Motherboard
-2x512mb Kingston HyperX DDR 500 PC 4000
-MSI 5900 XT Graphics card
-WD 120 GB HDD (primary)
-Maxtor 200 GB HDD (slave)
-Lite-on 52x32x52 CD-RW
-Lite-on 8x DVD-RW

I have not installed any programs since installing SP2 except games. (Doom 3
and Painkiller) And that's pretty much it. As I said before, this problem
started when I installed SP2. I will try as you suggested when I get home
from work tonight and let you know what comes of it. Thanks again.

Geoff
