Hi all. I have a D-Link 604 router to which I connect 2
xp pro sp1 machines. I have Upnp and ssdp services
running on both machines. On the kids machine the
gateways is enabled and they can surf the net. On my
machine the gateway shows as disabled and I cannot enable
it although I can still surf the net. I believe this is
causing me port forwarding problems as some application
cannot reach the internet. I have uninstalled and re-
installed tcp/ip, upnp and gateway detection something or
other (windows networking component) and still no joy.
NO software firewalls are running although Zone Alarm is
installed. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

It's probably ZoneAlarm, you might try uninstalling it till you get things
working.

Uninstalled ZA and still no different. When I try to
enable it (router) XP says connecting... then nothing and
no status change. Went and got a linksys to replace my
Dlink ...no difference. Can still surf and email etc. Did
the netsh thing to 'refresh' my tcp stack. Out of ideas.
Anyone else?

Does your linksys have the lastest firmware? Some versions of the Linksys
firmware had this problem.

Occasionally a realtime virus scanner can cause problems. Other than that
I'm out of ideas.
