Cannot Empty History Items

After I clear history in Internet Explorer (from Internet Options), the
History looks clear. However, if I go to "Search" in the side bar and type in
"www", a whole host of previously visited web pages appears. How do I delete
these? I've tried deleting all the temp internet files, clearing the history,
deleting cookies, etc. Any ideas?

Go to control panel and click on the internet option icon. Next click the
'contents' tab. In the contents window click the 'autocomplete button.
Remove the check mark from the 'web addresses' option. Click OK, then Apply
followed by OK to exit

Hi,
With no IE windows open, try it from Control Panel> Internet Options>
General> Clear History. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=323687

You might need to delete the damaged History folder- a new one will be
created on restart.

Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder in Windows 9x,2K, XP.

Another program might be locking your history.

The ActiveX filter of McAfee (and possibly other) anti-virus programs can
interfere with the history function of IE. Just disable the ActiveX filter
(on the Internet Filter tab.)

Don, my problem is that I can't open the Control Panel. I go to "START,
SETTINGS" and then the Control Panel doesn't come up.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi,
To display Control Panel on the Start Menu...
Right-click the Start Menu> Properties> Start Menu> Start Menu> Customize>
Advanced> Start Menu Items> see that "Don't display" is not checked under
Control Panel.

You could also find INETCPL.CPL in the Windows folder and open Control
Panel from there.

Or, you should be able to access Internet Options by right-clicking the IE
icon on the desktop and choosing Properties.

Hope this helps,
Don
