Cannot download printer driver

Larry

I sent this message a couple of days ago but I don't see it in the group.
It's not exactly a Windows question but I can't think of a more appropriate
group for it.

We're trying to hook up Lexmark X1150 printer to a Windows Vista laptop.
The driver
for that printer is not in the computer, even though about 100 other drivers
for Lexmark printers are in the computer.

We found the driver at the Lexmark site, but every time we start to save it
we get a message that says:

"Internet Explorer can't download cjr1100EN.exe from downloaddelivery.com
The connection with the server was reset."

There's no explanation of why it can't download, and what it means that "the
connection with the server was reset."

The Lexmark help page said one reason for the failed download might be that
there is another Lexmark printer installed on the computer. But that is not
the case here.

Any ideas what to do next?

Just an idea:

Try toggling the "Passive" setting in Internet Explorer.

Start Internet Explorer

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > check or uncheck the "Use Passive
FTP (for firewall and DSL modem compatibility)

Close Internet Explorer then try the download.

Give it a good try .. see if it works, then set IE7 back the way it was.

Hi Larry. Before a downloaded file is transferred to your chosen
folder location, its parts, so to speak, are downloaded to the Temporary
Internet Files folder.

Try this. Go to IE7 > Tools > Internet Options, and, on the
General tab, click on Settings, under the "Browsing history" section. In
the new window, next to "Disk space to use", try putting it at an
amount at least half of the highest number of what it says as
"(Recommended)"; for example, if it says 50- 250MB, try at least 125MB (the
default is 50, which is usually enough for browsing). Click OK.

Back on the General tab, under "Browsing history" again, click on Delete,
then click on Temporary Internet Files. Try the download again. If that
doesn't work, can you post back with a link to the page you are trying to
download from?

The fact that you have a printer driver installed on your computer would
have nothing to do with your being able to download a file.

Dean Dean the Windows machine .. I hope it works for him [and it probably
will .. and even if it doesn't it's a good answer].

Thank you. Deleting the Temporary Internet files seems to have worked. The
driver is downloading now. But this driver must be as big as Office
Professional, since it's taking my friend (with a dialup connection) four
hours to download it. I thought a driver was a simple, small piece of
software.

Now that we've figured out the problem, it's interesting to look again at
the error message we got:

It would have been nice if the error message had given some idea of what the
problem was and what to do about it. Where would we be without newsgroups?

Dean Dean the Windows machine ..

Thanks, Saucy, for the moniker. My six-year-old niece is responsible for my
username... I let her help me type it in whenever I first created the
account, or whatever it is that you do. She pressed enter, and I left it as
it was. She keeps track of such things, so I don't have the heart to change
it. She's going to get a kick out of your addition!

Good job Dean Dean!
FYI to the OP, there is a group for "Print-Fax-Scan".
