cannot display this video mode

I have changed the settings in video modes and I receive a message that says
"cannot display this video mode" I have tried everything.
boot in safe mode
boot in vga
boot in safe with networking
boot in last know configration that worked.
changed monitors
any other suggestions? please Help

Change the cable and try a different video card.

Actually, T.M. is likely on the right track here. You've already
spent a lot of time on this, it's time to fix it.

Borrow/buy a different cheap video card and swap
if for the one that's currently not working. XP will
likely boot to a low-res, but usable desktop. Don't let
XP install any native support for this temporary situation.
Cancel anything it wants to do.

Uninstall your "old" video card drivers. Use some
of the nVidia/ATI "cleaner" utilities (google for them) to
remove *all traces* (important) of the drivers/software.

Put your old card back and reboot. If you get a desktop,
install the card drivers.

Let us know what happens.
