cannot detect scanner

I've tried downloading upgrades from the manufacturer Canon- CanoScanN640Pex,
but still I can't run my scanner, "Scanner is not detected" always appears on
the menu. I even tried using Microsoft Office Document Scanning tests, but it
doesn't work at all. Do you have any advice to help me out on this problem?
Are there any changes that I should do in my Windows Components so that I can
run my scanner?
My computer is NFTS. What else is the problem aside from all the things you
mentioned about errors?

If the latest drivers for the scanner are for XP, my guess is one, either
you have the scanner's original software package installed and that is
causing problems with the driver and preventing the system from seeing the
scanner, their are issues with the drivers or they are not XP compatible.

If your scanner came with a software bundle and it is installed, try
removing it through add/remove programs in Control Panel as these packages
are typically designed to work with the initial drivers but often cause
problems for the scanner as drivers are updated and/or you move the to a new
operating system for which the original package was designed. After doing
that, then install the updated drivers.
