Cannot detect scanner

I am having a similar with my HP Laserjet 3015 - I am trying to use READ IRIS
software with no success and the software company is telling me it is a Vista
problem with not having the correct scanner driver however I do have the
correct printer driver...??? Has anyone else had this problem???

Debbie,

This is most likely a TWAIN & WIA incompatibility. Basically your driver
can be one of those two, as can your application. If your application is
one and your driver is the other they won't work together. From what I can
see on the iris website it *looks* like they support TWAIN not WIA.

Checking out HP's website, I see a list of drivers that doesn't say anything
about TWAIN or WIA support. You can try talking to them to find out.

First of all it might be a good idea to download install a Firmware
Update that is on the Website for XP Windows since that is the
generation of the All in One Printer but check the Firmware version you
have first in case it has been done already -- when did you get the
device?

You'll find other downloads there too.

If you look at the downloads for VISTA you will see that they only
offer the Universal Printer Drivers which are fairly basic and probably
do not cover scanning and faxing.

What has worked for me and for others is to install the XP software
package for the device but to install it using Compatibility Mode and
Run as Adminsitrator.

But first of all I see there is a Software Update on the XP page

and the details of what is in it lists them and in one of the previous
versions is the following:

Version 2.0

Includes all enhancements provided in Version 1.1.

The Scan-to application now recognizes if Readiris version 9.0 is
installed and adds it to the destination box.

which you should apply unless you know you have already.

So I'd download those and install them following the instructions on
the download page and see if that fixes your problem. If you are
offered a choice when you click on Download of Run or Save, use Save
then you will have the files in case you have to start all over again.

Let us know how you get along and look around on the HP website while
you are there.
