Cannot Delete Registry Key.

I have removed the Command Security Service (CSS) virus protection software
from my HP pavillion 750c machine (Win XP Home). In the Event Viewer, under
System, I get the following Error message: "The CSS DVP service failed to
start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified."
When I try to delete the Registry Key:
LOCAL MACHINE\System\Contol Set 001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_CSS_DVP
I get this message: "Error deleting Key: Cannot delete LEGACY_CSS_DVP: Error
while deleting key." The sc query shows error #1060 service does not exist.
How can I delete this key or get rid of the error message in the Event Viewer?

Try doing the regedit in Safe Mode.

Some Keys/Sub-Keys have permissions that prevent a user
from deleting them. To change, Right Click the key and take
Permissions, add yourself and then grant yourself full control.

You cannot (or at least not at all easily) delete from Enum

Instead look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\
for the subkey concerned and delete that

Always work on CurrentControlSet, not an explicitly numbered one
