Hello, over the LaborDay holiday I bought a MadDog Prowler
4.1 DSP sound card. I de-installed everything within 1 day
as it was not a quality card. However, I cannot delete a
reqistry entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001
\Enum\PCI\VEN_13F6&DEV_0111&SUBSYS_011113F6&REV_10 and its
subfolder

I rebooted in safe mode but still cannot delete key. I
also ran msconfig to make sure that there are no
transparent processes still using it.

Any pointers?

You're wasting your time deleting entries from ControlSet001.
It contains only old and unused entries. Delete them from
CurrentControlSet instead, and use regedt32.exe to modify
the permissions if necessary.

And to add to that. Usually to remove devices you'll want to first uninstall
the device from Device Manger then power down and physically remove it. This
may work for
you.

To display hidden devices, non-Plug and Play devices, and devices not
attached to the computer (commonly known as "ghosted" or "phantom" devices)
From a command prompt;

set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1

then also from the command prompt;
start devmgmt.msc

Then, use Device Manager to remove or reconfigure these devices. Do not edit
the registry.

Pegasus, your hint did the trick. running regedt32 and
changing the permission allowed me to delete it.

Dave, thanks for tip for displaying hidden devices. I
followed your steps and did not see anything
hidden/unusal.
