cannot delete frontpage bin folder - ARRRGHHH!!!

B

Barry

All,

I am not a FrontPage user. If it was ever installed on my
machine, I have long since uninstalled it. However, the
folder C:\Program Files\microsoft frontpage\version3.0\bin
still exists. The folder contains only an empty directory
structure - there are no files in this folder.

When I try to delete it, Win2KPro complains that there has
been a sharing violation, file may be in use. I can only
delete the folder when in safe mode, upon logging back in
as normal the folder is recreated! I have been through
the registry and deleted every key that contains the
text "frontpage" but it still recreates the damn thing.

Any suggestions? This is driving me batty.

Rgds,
Barry

You can not delete this folder as it is used by Windows, which is how it was installed, so just
forget that it is there.

Ignore it. The folder is created and used by the operating system, and has
nothing to do with FrontPage. It cannot be removed.

Barry,
This is required by Windows to provide some of the network shortcut
and folder features of the OS. It has nothing to do with the FrontPage
program, it's simply technology that was originally developed as part of
FrontPage 98 and has since been used in subsequent versions of the MS OS to
avoid re-inventing the wheel. Always research these things on
support.microsoft.com or www.google.com first as you may have introduced
instability into your operating system that you can't fix without a
repair/re-install or similar drastic procedure.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the feedback guys ... you're telling me I have
to be satisfied to not understand why it's there, just
forget it and be happy. Fair enough, but it won't be
easy :)

I made a backup of the registry before I started screwing
with it to fix the problem, haven't seen any issues but
will restore that verion to be safe.

Thanks again,
Barry
