Cannot create toolbar

Laura

I booted up my computer this morning and my quick launch
toolbar was gone. I got an error that said "Cannot create
toolbar" when I tried to add it back in. I have checked
and the folder for the quick launch is still there so I
am at a loss as to what is going on....anyone have any
help on this issue??

Thanks!!

Hi Laura,

This happened to me today. I hope someone out there knows
how to get the quick launch toolbar back. We have the
same problem. You are not alone.

Hi Laura,

I've tried everything, including going to Kellys website using those fix its and the dougknox website also. I beleive this is something for MS to look into because we've all pretty much been hit today with the same problem. And from what I see this just might be a "Virus" of some sort. One or two people have this problem is one thing, however, there seems to be more than just two or three on the same day with the very some problem. I'm waiting for MS to get back to me on this issue.

Please let me know if you get a reply. I, too, lost mine
and have not been able to recover it in spite of
everything I've tried. I'm at (e-mail address removed).
I'd appreciate hearing from you if you get an answer!
We're definately not alone & I'm concerned it's some type
of virus, too. Thanks!

Wow, something is up. I have the same problem and if this many people
are having it, there must be some root cause. I have tried everything
also but can't find a solution. Hopefully somebody figures out
something.

You would think that with this many posts on the subject that someone from Microsoft would jump in and try and find out what the root cause of this could be since it does effect a large portion of their userbase. (NOT!) We are but a few that have just inquired about the problem, imagine those that have given up simply because they cannot find a solution. I think that everyone who has posted about this very problem should email MS and slam them for not jumping on this issue immediately! TELL YOUR FREINDS!

That's a good thought, Rich, but this is a peer-to-peer newsgroup, not
Microsoft support. If you want Microsoft to address the issue, contact
them directly. I don't disagree with your comments, but this isn't the
venue to get Microsoft's attention.

There's always one! If you are not going to help with a solution or provide some helpful insight, then please don't add to the problem. And, Instead of being so sarcastic, if you have the answer to the problem why not provide a solution? And yes although we should all protect our machines as best as we can, when a software vendor leaves these little windows open for exploits it is their fault, and they should be made aware so that they can close that window of oportunity and correct the problem.

I finally retrieved my missing Quick Launch Toolbar in XP by doing a "repair" form the Windows CD. Only glitch was a persistent BSOD caused by a BAD_POOL_CALLER which Dell tech support said was likely caused by the modem. Pulled the modem and dropped it in the circular file (who uses modems anymore?) and I'm up and running with everything as it was 3 hours ago except the QL toolbar is back!

Ok People here goes and from what I understand this is the silver bullet to the Quick Launch gone missing dilemma

Go to: http://www.criticalnexus.com/resources/

and click on the winxp_cannot_create_toolbar.reg and download the reg file
use this reg hack to fix your problem and you are set.

From what I'm to understand seems that adaware/search & destroy people were overzelous in their registry editing efforts and they helped to remove an essential key

Enjoy "Welcome Back Quick Launch!"

Either download the .reg or .vbs from here or run my utility listed below it
to correct.
Note: If you already have my utility downloaded, you will need to
re-download for the added fix.

Or download and run the reg file on line 263 (right hand side)

Tip:

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the

To use the VBS Files: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you
may want to right
