Quick launch toolbar missing

Hi everyone,

this is a problem related to the quick launch toolbar.
once while working, my computer went into stand-by mode
on its own. when i logged in again then i found that i
was missing my quick launch toolbar. i had tried to
display it (quick launch toolbar) again in the
traditional way of right clicking on the task bar and
going to "properties" and checking the "quick launch
option". but for some reason it doesnot work that way. if
i take another route which is right clicking on the task
bar and then going to "toolbars" and then checking
the "quick launch" option, I get an error saying "Cannot
create toolbar".

I have done some research on the web and the most common
solution i have found is that of checking if i have a
quick launch folder at the following location:

"C:\Documents and Settings\Vibhor Gupta\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\"

i have checked this and have found that this folder is
there. i have even tried to delete this folder and create
a new one, but still i have not been able to get the
quick launch toolbar to be displayed again.

i would be very grateful to you if you could please
suggest me a way around this.

I have the exact same problem . . . have tried every suggested fix I could find online. If I right-click the task bar/properties . . . "Show Quick Launch" does not retain the check mark. If I right-click task bar/toolbars . . . I can select "address", "windows media player" and "links"; however selecting "desktop" and/or "quick launch" results in the error message "cannot create toolbar".

I have verified that my quick launch folder exists and my shortcuts are still displayed within this folder.

Help!!!

I've experienced the same problem. It started when I booted up my XP
machine and went to log into my profile. I got a dialog box message
that the profile lacked required priveleges and the system rebooted in
30 seconds. The other profiles did not behave the same way. I spent
an hour re-creating my profile and moving email, documents, etc. Ran
ad-aware and hijack, found traces of the IMISERV virus (including a
suspicious wupdt.exe executable), kept at it until an accompanying
browser hijack disappeared.. (all this on a machine with current nav
definitions, behind a firewall, latest patches, and strong password
security... and a daughter of course, just like the commercial).

The machine seems clean. No sign of any suspicious activity. However,
the quick launch feature is dead. I can check off the option under
toolbar properties, but the setting does not stick, and the quick
launch bar does not appear. The folder is present in the profile, it
just doesn't do anything.

Don't waste your time as I did with all of the suggested fixes you will see posted here. None of them fix this problem.

Do a repair/reinstall on Windows. If you are unsure of how to do this, check with the people you bought the PC from. Dell had EXCELLENT support for performing the repair.

After repairing, update Windows because all patches are lost during the repair.
