Cannot copy files when upgrading to XP Pro

I had XP Home. My college that I will be attending requests that all incoming
students upgrade their computers to XP Pro. It only costs $15, so why not. I
go home to install Pro and I wind up having all of these errors saying that
there's a bunch of files that I cannot copy over. I would list these files,
but there were honestly about 50 of them. They were all in the I386 folder
too.

Examine the Windows XP CD and make sure it is absolutely "pristine clean"
with no scratches, fingerprints or smudges. Use a mild non-ammonia based
household cleaning solution and a soft cloth to clean it.

I seem to have the same situation. New HP with "home" that I want to Upgade
to "PROSP2". Goes fine, then towards end of install fails to read files that
are plainly visible when browsing for them. I tried this in both drives with
the same result. The CD was verified with a CD diagnostic program. The files
setup could not find where expanded using a different machine that has the
resource kit and expand.exe. The only thing I found a little strange was that
the "disc label", for the files setup was asking for was not what I would
have expected. The disc is an OEM version.
