i have one windows 2000 terminal server here at the
office. i have users at remote offices currently using
the terminal server with no problem. now i tried to get a
winxp pc to connect to the terminal server from another
location. i know i have the right ip address and a good
internet connection, but i get the error message: "The
client could not connect to the Terminal Server. The
server may be too busy. Please try connecting again
later."

i cannot ping from the client, even though i have clients
in other locations that can. there is nothing in the
event log since i'm not able to get connected to the
terminal server. i have not tried to telnet that port
either.

If you can't even ping the server, chances are there is a firewall
between your pc and your server.
If your server is behind a firewall, you'll have to open port 3389
and point it to your servers private IP address. Then you can use
the rdp client to connect to the firewalls public IP address.
