Cannot connect to other PC !

Hi,

two PCs in network.
Both XP PRo SP2 - printer & file sharing ( not simple)

We see each other in LAN
I can connect to PC B and copy files from B to my PC A
I can ping B
B can ping A
Firewall ( ZA) has all LAN IP adresses assigned as trusted
PC A has shared folder on one drive.

But PC B cannot connect to A : message is that B does not have permissions
to access A

Any idea why and how correct ?

TIA+++

Phil,

On XP Pro with SFS disabled, check the Local Security Policies (Control Panel -
Administrative Tools). Under Local Policies - Security Options, look at
"Network access: Sharing and security model", and ensure it's set to "Classic -
local users authenticate as themselves".

On XP Pro with SFS disabled, if you set the above Local Security Policy to
"Guest only", enable the Guest account, using Start - Run - "cmd" - type "net
user guest /active:yes" in the command window. If "Classic", setup and use a
common non-Guest account on all computers. Whichever account is used, give it
an identical, non-blank password on all computers.

Is Windows Firewall disabled? If not, don't forget to enable the File and
Printer Sharing exception.

Windows firewall and whole "security center" disabled ( too many 'alerts'
without sense - replaced by NAv + SpySweeper + AdAware + ZoneAlarm)
Done what you suggested with local security "user authenticate themselves"
but problem remains.
Do not well understand rest of procedure you explain.

TIA for further precisions ( I am new to nework in XP - used W98 SE before
without such complexity to set up !)

Phil,

You have 2 XP Pro systems that you have disabled Simple File Sharing on. After
you disable SFS, you have to check the Local Security Policy for Network access,
and make sure it allows for Classic access (ala Windows 2000 Guest / non-Guest),
or you have to enable the Guest account.

You're likely getting "access denied" because the Guest account is not enabled
for network access.

Is there a reason why you disabled SFS? Do you want unrestricted sharing
between both computers? Guest account sharing will enable unrestricted sharing
except no administrative access, and no access to My Documents, "C:\Windows", or
"C:\Program Files".

To get total access between both computers, you have to:
1) Disable SFS.
2) Set the Network access LSP to "Classic".
3) Setup and use a common administrative (non-Guest) account with identical
non-blank password on both computers.

More about file sharing, between all different versions of Windows (read this
but have a large pot of coffee handy):

HI guys,
I had exactly the same problem, followed your thread substituting my IP
addresses in the script, results said I wasn’t connected to the network on
the wireless PC.

I found that the wizard put a “Bridge†in my Network Connections on the
wireless PC. It was “X†out. Also, after running the wizard I was not able
to connect to the Internet on the wireless PC. I disabled and deleted the
Bridge. Ran the wizard on the wireless PC (didn’t use the floppy created
when I ran the wizard on my home PC). I noticed the wizard picked all three
way to connect, (wireless, netwark card, and something else) so I chose to
pick the network connection myself, and only chose the wireless connection.
Booted the wireless PC and everything worked. I guess the wizard has to be
run on each PC when one is connected to the router with a cable and one is
wireless. And, you need to chose your connection, rather than letting the
wizard chose. Hope it works for you
