I have recently purchased a Linksys WAG54G ADSL Gateway router to enable me
to access the intenet from both my desktop PC via LAN and wirelessly using my
notebook.

First time set-up according to Linksys instructions was fine, although I had
to use the XP network connection wizard and restart my desktop computer
before I actually got connected to the Internet.

Subsequently I have lost the connection to the Internet. I have tried many
times to reset the gateway unit, restore my desktop computer to before the
original setup and start again etc but no result. I have now reconnected my
original modem for the desktop PC which I am using now to post this message.

I am running XP MCE with XPSP2. Windows firewall is disabled but Norton is
enabled. The router detects the ADSL connection but will not connect to the
Internet. My ISP is Tiscali Broadband (requires username & password to
connect)and the first time I set up the gateway I told it I was using an RFC
2364 PPPoA connection, which worked. Now it doesn't. I'm worried that I have
now used network and internet connection wizards so many times that the
registry is in a mess and I don't know what to do.

Can anybody help please!

You might have to clone your MAC address in the router's configuration by
using the old router MAC address.. Many ISPs use the MAC address to identify
your computer or router. Or simply calling your ISP to register the new
hardware (the router).

Thank you for your advice, problem solved but MAC address was not the cause.
Spoke to ISP (yet again!) but this time they provided me with the appropriate
router settings which seem to work so far.

Seems that Tiscali support is a bit hit and miss.

I am now stuck with my wireless connection, I cannot get my notebook to
access the internet through the router yet it will connect to the wireless
network with ease, this time I really am without a clue!

Any suggestions or links to relevant websites that can help would be
appreciated.

Notebook is Toshiba Tecra A2, running XP Pro SP2 with Centrino 802.11g.

Many thanks

I don't know if this will help, but if you are running a firewall, try
disabling it. But I am sure you have tried this.
