Hi there!

I have 2 computers - a desktop running XP SP2 and a laptop
still on SP1. I also have a Siemens Combo ADSL
Modem/Wireless Router (NAT type).

The desktop can connect to the internet via its ethernet
network adapter through the router to the internet.
However, I have been having problems connecting with the
laptop. The laptop has both an ethernet card and wireless
adapter. I cannot connect to the internet with either
type of adapter. This is true if the desktop is off or
on. Of note is that the internet connection cannot be
used by the desktop when I am logged on and connected to
the router on the laptop.

Also, I ran the network diagnostics on the laptop. It
failed the default gateway, DHCP and DNS server tests.
The TCP/IP settings for the laptop are the same as those
on the desktop, and all firewalls are disabled.

I'm really stuck here. I'm now believing I could have
some hardware conflict issues. Any suggestions would be
appreciated.

Thanks,
Ross

Ross,

that would mean to me that the router is defective.

It is quite possible that there is another problem and a
solution to it, but a router that blocks one computer as soon as
it is touched by another is not a piece of equipment that I
would like to use.

I would check the IP addresses, DHCP, etc.

Please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm.
