Cannot close archive.pst folder in Outlook 2003

When attempting to close "Archive Folders" (archive.pst) after running
"Archive", I get the error message "The operation failed. An object could
not be found" every time. No other info comes up.

Outlook 2003 SP2 (part of Office 2033 Pro), default security mode, up to
date on updates.

What's your goal? If it's to remove the PST from the Folder List, then
close Outlook and use Control Panel's Mail applet to remove it from the
profile. It it's to allow yourself to start a new archive, close Outlook
and rename the archive PST to another folder or give it another name.
Outlook will open a new one with the old name.

I have a similar problem to the original post. I have a couple of archive
folders showing in my Outlook 2003 folder list that are pointing to PST
folders that no longer exist. Brian's solution does NOT work for me because
when I open the mail applet, the offending PST folders are NOT showing in the
list, so they can't be removed. From within outlook, if I attempt to "close"
them, I am greeted by the same message in the original post. How can I blow
away these references to PST folders that no longer exist?

Thanks,

It sounds like you corrupted your mail profile by deleting the PSTs without
first having closed them in Outlook. If File>Data File Management won't let
you remove them, then you'll have to create a new mail profile.
