Cannot change subject in Notes

When I create a Note in Outlook 2002 (XP) and save it the first line becomes
the subject of the Note by default. In some cases I want to edit the subject
but when I do that and close the note the subject is not changed. Lately
even new notes will not be saved with a subject at all. Outlook will not let
me save them in a Category. I get a message saying "The meesaging interface
has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook." I
have tried restarting Outlook and it does not help. I use Notes a lot and
this is really frustrating. I have not been able to find anything about
Notes in the Knowledgbase.

I have the same problem in 2003. It does not allow notes to be renamed. Odd.
