Cannot Burn The Iso Image

G

Guest

Hello,

I have downloaded the Vista DVD image, in ISO format, but when i use nero to
burn this ISO it thinks it is a cd and therefor will not allow me to burn to
DVD.. If i put a DVD in the drive it spits it out and asks for cd/rw... if i
put a cd in it too spits this out which is hardly surprising as it does not
have enough space

my dvd burning is working and not faulty..

i have also tried using the daemon tool and tried to create a disc-to0disc
copy and this too forces a cd copy..

any thoughts

It could be you're doing a wrong thing somewhere. (Maybe not using the image
burning feature when you should?)

If it doesn't start working then try ImgBurn or DVD Decrypter. If it still
won't burn as a dvd image then there is something seriously wrong.. The
latter doesn't even allow to burn CD images I believe.

i appreciate the response but the problem is that nero does not allow this
file to be burnt to a dvd, it forces it to be burnt to a cd which ofcourse
will not work as a cd is not big enough.. for some reason it recognizes the
iso as a cd and not a dvd.. why ???

out of curiosity, how large is the ISO file itself.. the one i have download
is only 726MB.. is this correct...

the file name is

vista_5384.4.060518-1455_winmain_beta2_x86fre_client-LB2CFRE_EN_DVD.iso

What does Burn4Free say when trying to burn the file to DVD? It's freeware,
so there would only be a waste of some time. No $$ involved ;-)

You say that you used Nero. I didn't buy the retail package, I have the
Nero software that came bundled with my DVD burner. Previous to that I had
a version that came with my CD burner, which only would burn CDs and could
not burn a DVD. Do you have a version of Nero that can burn a DVD?

My version of Nero has three different executables that can burn a DVD
NeroBackItUP, Nero Express, and Nero StartSmart.

I use Nero StartSmart. Does your version of Nero include StartSmart? What
have you been using?

When I open Nero StartSmart, right at the top of the window there is a drop
down box for CD/DVD, CD, or DVD. I havn't tried CD/DVD, but when I burn CDs
I choose CD and it works, and when I bur DVDs I choose DVD and it works.

If you use Nero StartSmart, after you set the drop down box to DVD, there
are six icons inside the frame. They don't have labels until you mouse-over
them. If you mouse-over them from left to right they are:

Favorites
Data
Audio
Photo and Video
Copy and Backup
Extras

As you mouse-over each of them a set of icons will appear inside the frame
below the top row of icons. Mouse-over "Copy and Backup" and select "Burn
Image to Disc" from the icons that appear below.

That is what my copy of Nero StartSmart does. If you don't have Nero
StartSmart, or you don't see what I'm describing, you will probably need to
update your DVD burner software.

Ah, no. The x86 image should be around 3.2GB. Perhaps this is your issue.

Hello

That is what happens when using Nero and you do not set "Burn to DVD option" in the Nero Properties. You are set at present to burn to CD-RW. Check what it is set for before burning.

File size is 3.2 gig and the **IS** your issue. Wherever you got the file
from, you have an incomplete download. And, as it is no longer available for
download from Microsoft - you are up against a blank wall.

Borrow it from a friend and install it with the key supplied to "you" by
Microsoft (not the friends key).

I had similar problems with Nero
Nero is for burning CD's, not DVD's, and so it is looking for a CD to write
to.

Try this instead:

ASTONSOFT DeepBurner VERSION 1
Works fine for burning the DVD in ISO format.

At this point it doesn't matter WHAT he used to burn...he has an incomplete
download!

He only said that he was having a problem Burning a disk...There was no
mention of a bad download.
Unless I misread the original post..."Cannot Burn The ISO Image"

Yes, but then it was established that he did not have a complete download.
Read the whole thread.
That may be at root of what his problem is.

I had no trouble using Nero 6, though NOT from right clicking on the File.
Launch Nero smartstart FIRST.

My first download attempt was exactly 2048 KB (base 2).

Hi Gary,

In his third input, the OP indicated that his file size is only 726MB - far
too small for Vista.

Also, I burn DVD's from .iso files with Nero all the time, including Vista.
It will most certainly work for this chore using the "burn image to disk"
function.

Gary:
I've been using Nero to burn DVD files since version 5.5. Your
comment on Nero only being for CD's is very confusing. I use Nero 6.6 in
Vista x64 and Nero 7.0 in Windows x64 without any problems.

He hasn't said yet what version of Nero he is using. The OEM version I got
recently with my DVD burner will burn iso images to a DVD just fine, but the
OEM version that came with my CD burner not surprisingly would only burn
CDs.

If he has the retail version 6.6, or an OEM version that came with a DVD
burner, it should be able to do what he needs to do, but I havn't seen that
he has said what he has.
