Cannot add new printer

I came back to work on monday after having the systems
shut down over the weekend. I tried to print from my win
2000 system. Nothing happened. When i went to the printers
folder there were no printers there. The all just seemed
to dissappear. Well when I went to Add new printer I
received this error "printer operation cannot continue due
to lack of resources. The print subsystem is unavailable."
What Happened? What can I do? HELP!!!!

Thanks

Is your Os Windows 2000 Professional? Do you have MS Office XP with MS
Outlook installed? If all this is true, you may have joined a group of us
who all have the same problem. Take the second advice and try to restart
the print spooler. If your printer subsystem fails immediately afterward
with the first printer function of ANY kind that you attempt, hten welcome
to the club. Your only way out that works that I have found is that MS
Outlook from Office XP must be uninstalled. It's the only way to get your
printer(s) back that worked for me. I have tried every other solution
offered by an MS MVP in this MS newsgroup and others and none of them have
worked.

My disclaimer is that I am no expert in these areas. I just know what
worked for me. I was a mainframe computer operator and a COBOL programmer
until mainframes went largely out of use. I have never been able to keep up
with all the progress in th PC world. I do run two WIN2K Pro machines off a
router. I can't keep Outlook XP on either one if I want to print. This is
all I know.

My last shot is: let any MVP give me a solution to this and I'll reply as
to whether I've already tried it. If I have, he will know right away as
soon as I see the post! God bless!
