Cannot Add New File Types

J

Joe

I have a Windows 2000 Standard Server in my office. It
works great except for one thing: I cannot add any NEW
file types or file associations.

When I go to Windows Explorer > Folder Options > File
Types tab, the button for adding a NEW file type is grayed
out.

I am logged on as Administrator when I try to do this.

Any ideas?

This is probably because you have Terminal Services installed, but I ~don't
believe~ this should be the case if it's installed in remote administration
mode. But, maybe that's not the case. To get around the grayness, I
believe that this is the registry value to add/modify:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explo
rer]
"NoFileAssociate"=dword:00000000

Log off and back on to see the change.
