I am running windows xp prof sp2 and last week as I began browsing the
internet, small white horizontal lines appeared all over my screen and the
computer restarted on its own. I tried to run windows again but once my
desktop was loaded the lines would appear. I am not sure if it is a graphics
card problem or a dust problem so I dusted the computer but the lines
continued to appear. anytime I try to play a game the system restarts. I
rolled back the date but now long vertical lines apear as windows boots and I
cannot acces windows. yet there are no lines in safe mode. Is this a
hardware or software issue?

Try uninstalling the vga drivers, reboot, and reinstall the current vga
drivers.

Generally if you can boot to safe mode but not normally a driver is the
culprit.

I uninstalled in safe mode and reinstalled the drivers but nothing changed.

if i try the graphics card on someone else pc (capable of handling the card),
it wont harm the pc right? also if it does not work on another pc then
should I just buy a new one or what?

If it's not harming yours, it likely won't harm another PC, but there's no
guarantee.
If it doesn't work on the 2nd PC, a new card will likely solve your problem.

Thanks, I will try to go to a friends house and try it out. also out of
curiosity, what could have caused mine card to break down?
