Cannot access System Restore

Hello,

I tried to create a restore point, I got "System Restore is not able to
protect your computer. Please restart". I can't access the wizard either. I
also tried safe mode.

I went to Computer Management, System Restore shows "Stopped". I tried to
Start it and got "Could not start the System Restore Service. Error 126: the
specified module could not be found"

Any ideas? I'm running XP SP2
Thanks.

To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type:
SFC /SCANNOW

Then you can turn off system restore (in system app in control panel),
restart windows, and turn it back on. (You lose all old restore points)

Reinstalling System Restore using SR.INF should help.

How to reinstall System Restore in Windows XP?:

Note that the procedure recommended above, will remove all the existing System Restore points, and resets the System Restore drive monitoring options (monitors all drives by default.)
