cannot access start menu or desktop icons

i downloaded and installed all updates and now i cannot access any programes
on the computer when i click on them i get a nothing but a chime. any
suggestions?

I would open Start, then Control Panel then navigate to Add remove Programs
and start with the last update and uninstall them one by one testing until
you get working again.

You really need to ask this in a Windows newsgroup, not an Access database
one.
