Cannot access PC on Wan

On a Win2000 server network. I can access pc1 located across the wan from pc2. I cannot access pc1 from pc3 across the wan. I can access pc2 from pc3 on the lan. From pc3, all PCs on the microsoft network show up in 'My Network Places'. But when double clicking pc1, the error says '//pc1 is not accessible. The network path was not found'. Everything on pc2 and pc3 are equal: win2000 with fat32, same DNS settings. The only difference between the two machines is: pc2 has a 1100 mg processor, pc3 has a 566 mg processor. The speed of the wan is only 56k. Is something timing-out?
Thanks for any help.

How did you set up name resolution. You shouldn't be seeing WAN PCs in
Network Places by default.
