File/Printer Sharing w/ Win2K Pro

Hi All,

Hopefully someone will be able to help me w/ this issue.

My small business has 3 pc's. PC1 = Win XP. PC2 = Win
2KPro. PC3 = Win2KPro.

I'm trying to have PC3 act as a file/print server. I've
set up file & printer sharing on it without a problem.
However, when someone from PC1 or 2 tries to access the
shared folders we are asked for PC3's user name (no
password set up). Also, when we try to print from PC1 or 2
we get an error saying we are not connect. We have to
access PC3 via network neighbourhood and enter the PC3
user name first, then we can print ok.

Is there a way to access the files & print w/o entering
the PC3 user name every time? We are all very new to
networking. Thanks.

.

I forgot to mention that they are networked via a linksys
4 port router and a cable modem.

Make sure all computers are in the same workgroup and that all useraccounts
exist on all computers (W2K/XP's). Got File- and printersharing loaded? Is
Netbios over TCP/IP enabled (Advanced properties of TCP/IP, tab WINS)?

They are all in the same workgroup. File & printer sharing
are loaded. I'm not sure if Netbois over TCP/IP is loaded.
I'll check tonight.

The pc's can all see each other. The issue is that I have
to enter the win2k user name when connecting to it from
the other pc's (XP). The win2k pc's can connect to the XP
pc without having to enter a user name or password.

Printing is my main issue. I have to log into the win2k pc
from the XP pc via network neighbourhood prior to printing
or I'll get a printer not connected error. Once I enter
the user name I can print remotely without a problem.

Thanks for you reply. I'll check the Netbois & report back.

NET Bios is enabled.

Do you mean that I should add the users on the XP pc to
the user list of the win2k pc & vice versa? If so, is
there a way to add the win2k user on the XP pc without
having the user show up on the main login page(I have 3
other logins set up on the XP pc)?

On the win2k pc would I add the user via users &
passwords/advanced/advanced user mgmt/users/action/new
user?

Thank you again for your help & suggestions. I'm a newbie
who appreciates your assistance!
