I am unable to access a banking website that previously worked with no
problem.

I have Windows 98 and use Explorer 6.

I'd appreciate any advice that will help me solve this problem.

Check for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). It may be a
hidden file. Open it with Notepad and remove any line referencing the site.
Or, rename HOSTS to OLDHOSTS

Thanks so much for your suggestion, Frank. I'll try it and see what happens.

Frank:

I tried to follow your suggestion, but could find no file HOSTS with no
extension. There was one with a SAM extension, and one with a .101(?)
extension. Neither contained any reference to the website.

I looked by doing a file search. I'm not very learned about this sort of
thing. Is there another way to search? Is the file part of a particular
program?

I'd appreciate any addition advice you can give.

Hi Abby,
Open a browser window and then press <ctl> F5.
This will clear IE's cache.

Close the browser and run disk cleanup.
Then do a search with windows explorer for all temp folders.
Empty them all.

Empty the recycle bin and restart the computer.

Thanks, John. I'll follow your instructions and see what happens. Here's
hoping!

John:

I tried your suggestions but nothing has changed. I believe I have already
been clearing the cache and emptying temp folders. Any other ideas? I'd
appreciate any help. Thanks so much.
