Cannot access internet via main computer, but daughter's can.

Please let me know if there is a fix for this:

I am running XP on both my daughter's and my home
computer. We had never had difficulty with our
RoadRunner connection until my PC got a trojan virus.
After removing it, we were unable to access the internet
or e-mail on our main computer. However, our daughter's
computer is connected to the internet through a NetGear
wireless router, which piggybacks on our cable modem
(Toshiba PCX2200). While we cannot access anything on
our computer, hers is having no trouble at all staying
connected.

What I have tried so far:

1. Bypassed router and connected directly to modem.
Unsuccessful with both USB and NIC connections.

2. Checked device manager to ensure that all devices are
detected and working properly.
According to my computer, everything is as it should be.

3. Shut down computer, unplugged power from modem and
router, waited 5 minutes, started computer, plugged in
modem and router (I tried this with and without the
router).
Tried this approach several times with RoadRunner tech
support...no help.

4. Windows XP Repair install.
Saved my files and reloaded the whole deal with this
option.
Still no luck. I was hoping this approach might work in
case there were missing files or something amiss with
IE. I have considered doing a full install, but that
means I will have to save all of my wife's e-mail
(several hundred messages) and all my other must-keep
info to a CD-ROM because I am afraid it will be lost if I
have Windows put a fresh install over the current one.

Has anyone encountered this hairball before? PLEASE let
me know how I can fix this!
