N

newsab0510

Using Windows XP - on Boot up, the following message is displayed in a
rectangular box

C:\windows\system32\lfyyik\csrss.exe

Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file.
You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item

OK

I click OK and the following is displayed in a rectangular box

Desktop

Could not load or run
C:\Windows\system32\lfyyik\csrss,exe specified in the registry
Make sure the file exists on your computer

OK

I click OK and the same messages are repeated, after clicking OK as
above, the computer loads and seems to run fine.

I have done a search for the file csrss.exx and find it in the
Windows\system32 folder.

Can anyone advise me what this all means?

Many thanks

Run any antivirus scans lately? The error messages you're
getting sound like a security program on your system caught
this pest, deleted it, but left behind the instructions
contained within your system's registry designed to launch the
file on startup.

C:\Windows\system32\lfyyik\csrss.exe is not a legitimate
Windows file. I'm not enough of a security expert to tell you
with 100% certainty, but I'd bet it's some type of malware, a
virus, trojan, or worm.

Note: The copy of csrss.exe you found in your Windows\system32
folder is a Windows file. Do not delete it.

To stop the error messages, you can try the following.

Download this program from Microsoft.
AutoRuns for Windows v8.73
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/AutoRuns.mspx

Launch the program.
On the toolbar at the top of the window, click on Options.
In the menu that drops down, click on "Hide Microsoft Entries".
Next, hit the F5 key.
Look on the Everything page for any entries that have
C:\Windows\system32\lfyyik\csrss.exe listed in the Image path
column.
Remove the check mark from the box next to these entries.
Close Autoruns and restart your computer.
If the error messages are no longer displayed, you can run
Autoruns a second time and delete the entries you earlier
unchecked.

How you proceed from here is up to you, but here's a web site
with great information on cleaning your system. Keep in mind
that even if you have stopped the error messages at bootup,
your system could still be compromised.

Many thanks for these replies, I have had a couple of virus problems,
both dealt with by AVG and that may have started the problem
I will however try your suggestions and see if it works.

Thanks once again for your help.
