We have a ME pc that cannot access the shared folder on one XP Pro pc. The
ME pc can access other shared folders on other XP Pro pcs and the one of XP
Pro pc that cannot be accessed by the ME pc can access the ME pc without
problem. Can someone advise the potential issues and possible fixes.

Thanks,

Ray

Check that the firewall is not enabled on the XP Pro
machine.
Setup a username/password on the XP pro machine that
maches the ME machine username/password.

Thanks for your advice.

The firewall on the XP Pro machine is disabled. I can't follow what and why
to set up a username/password on the XP Pro machine. Could you please give
me greater detail.

Thanks,

Ray

Ray,

I'll quickly jump in before you get an answer from the first
replier.

Note the name and password with which you log on to the ME
computer. Then set up an account on the XP computer with exactly
that name and password.

Hans-Georg,

Thanks for your information. However, I cannot set up an account on the XP
Pro machine since from XP Pro, the user name does not allow space so I
changed all users from FirstName LastName to FirstNameLastName without space
in between. The users who still using former OS are not changed.

I do not really understand why we need to set up an account on the XP Pro
machine. Is it for temporary use? The owner of the machine may not be
happy to open the machine for other user.

Ray,

that's new to me. My usernames have spaces in them.

The computer will not allow anybody to access the computer
without authentication, i.e. username and password. Network
access is done with the username and password that had been
entered on the client computer.

The exception is guest access, but usually one doesn't want that
to be open, because it would be open to everybody.
