Workgroup computers cannot access a pc that was updated to sp3

Hello,
due to some recent problems with a pc in our network, we fixed all problems
and also installed xp sp3, which we were going to do also for the rest.
However, after the upgrade, even though all computers see each other in the
Workgroup, none of them can access shares and printers on the pc which was
upgraded to sp3. The SP3 PC can access shares on all other computers.

Strangely enough, I tried creating two identical 'Administrator level'
accounts, one on the SP3 PC and one on a NON SP3 PC. If the non SP3 PC user
logs in with this account, it's possible to access shares on the SP3 PC.

Can anyone help me solve this problem?

May I also say that one of the PCs in the workgroup has Vista installed, and
in thise case the impossibility to access shares occures both ways, Vista
can't access XP SP3, and XP SP3 can't access Vista.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.

Thanks
Simone

I have a similar problem, but this is with, media center 2005 sp3 and xp x64
sp2. The two systems can see each other and I third running xp home sp3 , but
I can't get the two to connect without using 'net use'. I am able to connect
to the xp home system from both computers and ping all three's ip's, but not
the systems names (except for the xp home system).

I just bought the xp x64 and xp home systems so I don't know if it was the
sp3 update on the media center 2005 system because I updated before I bought
the others, but I know it worked fine with my old xp x64 sp1 system.

Let me know if you can ping the ip's and mount a network drive using the
'net' command and I'll pass along what I find. ... I'm not going to be able
to sleep until I get this fixed.

Hi,
I managed to resolve the problem by allowing anonymous access. I don't know
if this is the correct way to go but I had to get this working somehow. What
I found was that all PCs that are working fine have the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA\restricanonymous = 0

while the XP3 PC had it set to 1. I changed it to 0 and now all is working
fine, all PCs are able to access the SP3 PC.

Strangely enough, I also checked on my own XP, which has XP SP3 installed
and the value is set to 0, and I guess it's always been.

Hope this helps you solve your problem too.

Cheers
