Can ink tanks be refilled on Cannon IP4200. I know they have contacts
to show the ink status but will it print with refills.

The warranty is only for a year. I've been refilling for almost two
years. No problems to speak of. Has Measekite ever specified how much
time? 5 years, 10 years? Isn't that way past the average lifespan of a
printer anyway? So who cares? He's really just telling you the obvious:
that all printers eventually die .... it takes time.

Martin said:I've got two iP4200's and two MP500's which have been refilled and/or
converted to use CIS systems.. In all cases the printer has been refilled
and only required me to accept responsibility for my actions as is now
normal for these printers.
One of the iP4200's has pumped out about the equivalent of 4 or 5 full
cartridge sets in ink so it doesn't seem to have any problems with it.
As Zakezuke pointed out though, this may change in the future if Canon
decide to tighten things up but I'd say that was unlikely as it'd leave
them open to litigation more than their current strategy.

Martin said:I actually created my own using the OEM cartridges and some parts I
sourced from a number of medical suppliers and an ink supplier in the EU.
All my kits are working nicely but I was among a few people who work the
unique problems the printer design provided.. So it was no walk in the
park.
Recently though I've see two offerings from two different companies that
I'd consider...
1. MIS Associates
http://www.inksupply.com/cfs_ip4200_new.cfm
2. Echostore.com
http://www.echostore.com/continuous-ink-supply-system-ip4200.html
The MIS associates approach is very similar to my home brew effort but has
a number of subtle refinements so I'd hedge more towards them.. The cost
of the OEM cartridges they've used is being handed to you though so it's
more costly, as are most MIS solutions but I'd recommend their solutions
in a heartbeat.
The Echostore one is different in that it uses custom buffers (instead of
cartridges) and the same old continuous pressure reservoir which is on
many chinese CIS kits. It's out of my experience range but worth a look if
you have a set of OEM cartridges and chips available.. It's cheaper but
requires more work and the instructions are less comprehensive so it's a
bit more work.
I'm a bit of an MIS fan though so take my input with a pinch of salt..
Either way your mileage may vary so good luck and hope that helps..

IP4200's EEPROM. Please read carefully the indications below. Do that
only if you know what are doing!!!
I have still the original cartriges and I reffiled 5 times until now
and I don't have any problem. BTW, excepting the lack of reffiling, the
IP4200 is a great printer.
Hope to help this information.
zakezuke said:That certainly was useful info. Question though, by resetting the
machine's e-prom does it actually reset the the chips to reflect full?
I suspect it's a tradeoff... sacrafise the long term data your printer
collects such as waste ink count and total pages printed for lack of
warnings.
