Is there a way to clear the pop ups that keep informing one that one is
connected/disconnected etc, from the notification area, without picking up
the mouse and clicking on them each time?

They have 'x's in the corner, but I can't see how to 'hit' this from the
keyboard.

seeing as how I have no Idea what your talking about, I can't help you!

is this on a laptop and your using a wireless internet connection??

I thought it was fairly self explanatory:

In XP, on the bottom right hand corner is the notification area where all
sorts of 'speech bubble' call outs pop up to inform you of the changes in
the operating conditions of various running programmes and services.

These call outs have an X in the top right corner, but whereas in normal
windows and pop ups, Esc or Alt Spacebar C will close them, these have to be
clicked on.

This is OK when it is just now and again, but with the nature of internet
connection and wireless networking being what it is, there are far too many
times one has to stop what one is doing, pick up the mouse, and dismiss a
perfectly unnecessary pop up that is only telling you what is already
painfully apparent. Only to have it pop up again a little later...

Seems to be no way to get rid of these call outs completely - other than
disconnecting of course.
And no way to dismiss them without the mouse or touch pad.

Unless you now have enough info to devise a solution?

Cheers,

S
