Depends on what you mean by unlock? If you mean you want items of the master
not to appear on certain slides you can go to Format - Background and put a
check next to omit background items from master. Edit them no, only in the
master will you be able to make changes. Depending on what you want to do
you could consider making a second master with other settings and apply to
the slides of your choice. Providing you have PPT2002/2003.
