Hello all,

I have connected my laptop to my two-PC home network. I can see the two PCs
and connect to the Internet through my router. From both PCs I can see the
laptop. But I cannot connect to the laptop from either PC or to the other
PCs from the laptop. Error message "Network Path Not FOund."

I disabled the firewall on the laptop to no avail. Any ideas?

Lee,

What firewall did you disable? Many firewalls do not disable successfully - you
need to re enable, then configure them for file sharing, by opening ports TCP
139, 445 and UDP 137, 138, 445, and / or by identifying the other computers as
present in the Local (Trusted) zone. Firewall configurations are a very common
cause of (network) browser problems.

Make sure the browser service is running on the laptop. Control Panel -
Administrative Tools - Services. Verify that the Computer Browser service is
started.

Is the laptop running XP Home or Pro? If Pro, check to see if Simple File
Sharing (Control Panel - Folder Options - View - Advanced settings) is enabled
or disabled. With XP Pro, you need to have the SFS settings the same on each
computer.

If SFS is disabled, check the Local Security Policy (Control Panel -
Administrative Tools). Under Local Policies - Security Options, look at
"Network access: Sharing and security model", and ensure it's set to "Classic -
local users authenticate as themselves".

If you set the Local Security Policy to "Guest only", make sure that the Guest
account is enabled, and has an identical, non-blank, password on all computers.
If "Classic", setup and use a common account with identical, non-blank, password
on all computers.

Hi Chuck,

I am having the same problem as the person below. I have
2 computers running XP Pro...one is a laptop with
a wireless card, the other a desktop with NIC card. I can
see both computers on the network and I can access files
on the laptop with the desktop but not the other way
round. I do not have any firewalls running, not even on
my wireless router. I have enabled NetBios over TCP/IP on
both computers and DHCP is enabled as well. I can print
but not file share. I get a message that says "
<filename> is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions... Not enough server storage is
available to process this command" ."Help...I've been
fighting with
this
for 2 day and nights...I'm seeing double and have a
whopping headache. Tia

Mark,

Sorry for your headache. Computers do give that occasionally.

Please start a new topic for help. This will benefit both you, and the OP.

Cheers,
